Fremont High School Environmental Club members conducted a fundraiser this spring raising funds for the planting of trees in Fremont. The proceeds of the fundraiser are used to fund the Town of Fremont’s contribution to the cost of trees planted each year as part of the Arbor Day celebration. Twenty-five blue spruce trees were planted along West Street near the High School baseball diamond and six additional trees were planted in the inaugural year of the Memory Tree program at various locations around Town. Tulip, Redbud, and Flowering Pear trees were planted with the aid of the following sponsors Mr. Wendell Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. John Ludy, Mr. and Mrs. Don McConnell, Pat “Mundy” Helton in memory of Ike and Madelene Mundy, Donald Helton in memory of Mr. & Mrs. William S. Helton, and Steve and Shane Parsons in memory of Momma Jo Parsons. Fremont Town employees, along with Fremont Community School personnel, planted the trees and treated the E-Club kids with lunch after their work at Wing Haven Nature Preserve. The E-Club also spent time cleaning the grounds at the Fremont Town Park in the afternoon.
The Fremont Public Library sponsored a Family Library Hour on Monday, April 20, 2009 celebrating Arbor Day and Earth Day. A planting demonstration by Nate Simons and tree themed crafts, snacks and stories were presented and free tree seedlings were distributed. Partners in this event included Blue Heron Ministries and Girl Scout Troops #204 & #368 of Fremont.

Fifteen members of the Fremont High School Environmental Club spent their Arbor Day this year planting 32 trees along several streets in Fremont. Their efforts were a key part of the Town’s first-ever “Partners in Planting” project. Thanks to a grant from the ALCOA Foundation and donations from the Fremont Youth League and the E Club, the Town was able to spend nearly $6,000 planting a new generation of hardwood trees on Fremont’s tree lawn. Danny Frasier and Jeff Olds supervised the students’ efforts. A splendid time was had by all who took part---AND the Town of Fremont provided lunch in the park for all participants.Fremont High School E Club members Zack Bernau, Kylie Moore, Caitlin Burlingame, Julie Bouwman and Cassie Foulk with town employee Danny Frazier display honors.
