Chris Snyder Shovel Ready Speech

Chris Synder, Kathy Parsons, Steve Vaughn, Steve Brown, Linda Fulton and Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann with Shovel Ready Award who have contributed to this process. Fremont and its citizens and government officials thank you for your assistance and aid in getting us to this point in the journey to increasing investment and jobs in our community. Thanks to All present and past Council members, Plan Commission folks, anyone who served on a committee and the citizens and businesses of Fremont – thank you for your support. Without the support and wisdom of the entire community and Steuben County, we would not be here today celebrating this designation. We know this will give us a competitive advantage leading to increased investment and the creation of quality new jobs in the community. We have always been very deliberate in the past to make sure new businesses are a good fit for our community and bring a positive change to Fremont. We will continue to be diligent to make sure any new development enhances the community so it is a good marriage for both Fremont and the company so both entities can be successful and better off in the long term. This process to get to today’s announcement has been a long one beginning in the planning stages nearly 20 years ago. During the recruitment of another company to our community in the mid 1990’s, we had discussions with each potential employer about their needs and wants and what would make Fremont a more attractive place for business to locate. One of leading items mentioned was the need for a Truck Route to allow the flow of raw materials and finished goods back and forth from our manufacturing facilities to the major roads which serve our area. A truck route which would keep the trucks out of school zone and residential areas in Town

As Fremont Town Manager I welcome you all to the Fremont community and to Steuben County. You always have an open invitation to visit us at anytime. Steuben County is not just the cross roads to the Midwest with I-69 and the Toll Road running through it providing critical access to major markets in all directions.
We have so much more to offer no matter the time of year. I grew up in the Fremont community and have always known that this part of northeast Indiana, I am prejudiced, but especially Fremont, is a great place to live, work, raise a family and operate a business.
After being gone for a few years for college and another job, my wife and young family returned to Fremont as I knew this was the right place to raise my 2 children. I joined a successful family business in the community and have never regretted that decision. We have so many unique things in Steuben County, Pokagon State Park (the Inn, lake, the toboggan slide) for year round activities, Satek and Briali wineries, unique shopping opportunities from the Outlet Shoppes at Fremont to Barn Stable Antiques, Old Mill Shoppes and Art Gallery, the Wild Winds Buffalo Farm, many outstanding golf courses, and of course the numerous lakes which provide recreation all year round. You can enjoy a delicious meal at a wonderful restaurant while enjoying the sunset across the smooth water of a beautiful lake. Winter or summer, we have something for all to enjoy. But most of all, we have so many great people who make this Town and County their home – neighbors and friends helping one another – others talk about the quality of life – we truly have an exceptional quality of life here in northeast Indiana.
I want to thank all the groups, organizations, and individuals
